About Us

Chikankari is traditional Indian embroidery
dating back to the 18th century in the city of Lucknow, India.
Chikankari uses white thread on fine white muslin/silk cloth to highlight

Historical records suggest that the Mughal Empress, Nur Jahan popularized Chikankari work in India. As a great patron of arts, she invited Persian artisans to introduce the delicate white-on-white embroidery

Chikankari work involves days of manual handwork to create the intricate and delicate designs. The craft is mostly done by women artisans in Lucknow who are often underpaid for their efforts.
The craft is passed down generations of artisans where only a limited artisans are now keeping it alive.
